Proper documentation provides the empirical data required for quality control, formulation processing, and regulatory compliance. Desert Juice Company (DJC), LLC structures and reviews these core documents to ensure physical and chemical accuracy, batch reproducibility, and full compliance with federal statutes, including MoCRA.

1. Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

The SDS is a legally mandated hazard communication document, required for raw materials and finished bulk products.

  • Regulatory Citation: Must comply strictly with the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) and the UN Globally Harmonized System (GHS) 16-section format.

  • Formulation Confidentiality (Section 3): Structuring composition data to protect the client's proprietary exact percentages (w/w) by utilizing allowable concentration ranges, while fully disclosing hazardous components as required by law.

  • Toxicological & Ecological Data: Ensuring Sections 11 and 12 contain the precise acute toxicity and environmental impact data required to feed into downstream safety risk assessments.

2. Certificates of Analysis (CoA)

The CoA is the definitive quality control approval document. It is the primary record utilized to respond to questions regarding finished product quality, proving that a specific lot was tested and approved against the master specification.

  • Analytical Verification Testing: Documenting the exact measured results for the batch's physical and chemical tests (e.g., appearance, specific gravity, pH, heavy metal limits) to confirm it falls within the required acceptance criteria.

  • GMP & MoCRA Compliance: CoAs are a mandatory component of ISO 22716:2007 (Clause 6 and Clause 8) to authorize batch release and ensure the product is moving through a compliant GMP facility, directly satisfying the Good Manufacturing Practice mandates established under MoCRA Section 606 (21 U.S.C. § 364b).

3. Technical Data Sheets (TDS)

The TDS provides the informational specifics and processing parameters for a product or material. It serves as a technical reference useful for transport, manufacturing guidelines, and communicating exact expectations to customers.

  • Physical & Chemical Specifications: Dictates the exact testable ranges and performance limits (e.g., CIE color specifications, temperature tolerances, specific gravity windows, or rub test pass/fail criteria). This establishes the exact testing windows a manufacturer must measure against.

  • Naming & Classification: Identifying the material nomenclature (e.g., INCI names for raw materials) as a distinct category, completely separate from its physical specifications. This ensures the raw material inputs provide the exact nomenclature required for downstream compliance with FDA cosmetic ingredient declaration rules (21 CFR 701.3(c)) and MoCRA Section 607 (21 U.S.C. § 364c) for accurate product ingredient listings.

  • Processing Parameters: Outlining the critical technical data required by formulators, including solubility profiles, phase-incorporation temperatures, shear sensitivity, and pH restrictions. Documenting these specific operational parameters establishes the controlled manufacturing conditions necessary to satisfy ISO 22716:2007 (Clause 7: Production) and the Good Manufacturing Practice requirements under MoCRA Section 606 (21 U.S.C. § 364b).

4. Product Data Sheets (PDS)

The PDS acts as the operational bridge between the quality control data (CoA) and the consumer-facing claims (Marketing Literature), combining technical realities with commercial application.

  • Finished Good Specifications: Summarizing the final application, physical traits, and primary packaging components in a format suitable for circulation to potential customers.

  • INCI Declaration: The PDS provides the finalized INCI ingredient list, which directly supports MoCRA Section 607 (21 U.S.C. § 364c) for mandatory FDA product ingredient listing.

  • Product Claims Documentation: The PDS establishes the specific claims the product makes based on its intended use. These claims must be firmly grounded in empirical data, ensuring the stated application aligns directly with the safety substantiation required under MoCRA Section 608 (21 U.S.C. § 364d).

5. Marketing Literature & Claims Substantiation

Marketing copy must be firmly grounded in empirical formulation data to show compliance with federal regulations regarding what the product is and what it does.

  • Ingredient Substantiation: DJC reviews the literature to substantiate the ingredients and ensure the product's claims—as bridged by the PDS—align with its actual function and capabilities.

  • MoCRA Safety Substantiation (§ 608): DJC ensures that the marketed claims and customary conditions of use described in the literature are fully compliant with MoCRA Section 608 (21 U.S.C. § 364d), guaranteeing that the marketed intended use is backed by the required safety substantiation records.
